Abstract

This qualitative research investigates the existing links between digital competences and innovative leadership within the framework of entrepreneurship. To carry it out, a multiple case study design was used, interviewing a total of twelve key informants from five ventures in Latin America operating in the circular economy, clean technologies, and fair trade sectors. The data were analyzed using ATLAS.ti software, following the thematic analysis technique of Braun and Clarke. The results show that digital competences function as strategic enablers for entrepreneurship, although they are insufficient unless accompanied by distributed leadership practices. Structural barriers such as the generational gap and lack of time were identified, as well as facilitators such as digital skills exchange networks. An emerging model of their articulation (in the form of a biography) is presented, based on three mechanisms: strategic translation, participatory governance, and adaptive resilience. The conclusions point to the need to train entrepreneurs in technical competences – in digitality – and in relational leadership competences; simultaneously with the incorporation of digital gap indicators into sustainability measurement systems.
