Abstract

This research analyzes the relationship between the academic profile of incoming students and their academic performance in the Postgraduate Program in Higher Education Teaching at the University of Panama. A descriptive-correlational design was applied with a sample of 74 graduates, using validated surveys and a review of academic records. The results show a significant correlation between the incoming index and academic performance (r = 0.443; p = 0.018), as well as a moderate association between sex and age with performance (r = 0.2829; p = 0.0497). Greater heterogeneity was identified in the female group. The highest correlations were found between the courses Assessment of Learning and Seminar (r = 0.684), and between Research Methodology and Learning Theories (r = 0.626). The findings provide evidence to strengthen admission processes, academic support, and curriculum articulation.
