Transformational Teacher Leadership and Its Influence on Strengthening the Parental Role in Schools

The issue that motivates this research lies in the limited teacher training in transformational leadership and the weak communication and shared responsibility between school and family, which have resulted in low parental participation in the academic and socio-emotional support processes of their children. Thus, this study analyzes the influence of transformational leadership exercised by teachers on the strengthening of the parental role in a rural educational institution in the Pedernales canton, Ecuador. The research adopts a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design, applying an adapted questionnaire from the MLQ Form 5X – Revised to legal representatives and teachers; the family instrument retained 20 items reorganized by dimension, while the teachers’ version was refined to 17 items to reduce redundancy. Descriptive statistics and reliability (Cronbach’s alpha) were calculated for each dimension and the overall scale. The results show a high assessment of transformational leadership from the family perspective, with greater strength in inspirational motivation, professional coherence, and empathic communication. Intellectual stimulation, although well rated, showed lower consistency among teachers, suggesting an opportunity for improvement in visible practices of cognitive challenge and formative feedback toward families. The study concludes with recommendations to consolidate an institutional model of teacher leadership that integrates inspiration, coherence, empathic communication, and cognitive challenge to enhance educational co-responsibility.
