Introduction: Early retirement is a cause for concern in the health field because it directly affects the availability of a sufficient and qualified workforce. Objective: To determine the effectiveness of the "Caring for the Caregiver" program on the well-being of the nurse working at the Essalud Hospital in Chimbote, Peru in the pre-retirement stage. Methodology: It is descriptive, quantitative and cross-sectional research with a pre-experimental design with the application of a pre-test and post-test. The sample was 50 pre-retired nurses. For data collection, the well-being scale, adapted from Stoewen, 2017, and the "Caring for the Caregiver" Program developed in eight face-to-face sessions were used. SPSS 27.0 was used and t-student and Chi2 were applied, with a statistical significance level of p: <0.05. Results: It was found that the average value of the post-test was higher with a significant difference (p: <0.001). In the pre-test, 70 % of the pre-retired nurses reported lower well-being; while in the post-test, all reported higher well-being. The level of well-being was related to program implementation (p: <0.001). Conclusions: The "Caring for the Caregiver" program proved effective in improving the well-being of nurses during the pre-retirement stage. The results of this study suggest that public and private healthcare institutions consider support and awareness programs for nurses to help them cope with life during pre-retirement.
